Looking Back: Part One

This year and Pin Ups & Pups…

So, those of you that even remotely know Lynn, also know that she has an evident love for two things: her four-legged loved ones (usually Pit Bulls)…

& the aesthetic sense of the 1950’s and 60’s be it furniture, design, color schemes and flat out kitsch…she is practically on a first name basis at T.F.A. and The Vintage Haberdashery...since she began combining these two loves, that is. Two years ago, Lynn put together her first Pin Up & Pups Calendar for Mutts N’ Stuff. Mutts N’ Stuff is is an all-volunteer organization of foster homes, set up to rescue and find good homes for animals in need throughout the St. Louis metro area.

During the past year Lynn’s dedication to the this organization along with her commitment to detail and authenticity, have come together to create a great product. The 2011 Mutts N’ Stuff, Pin Up’s & Pups Calendar is a stellar collection of vintage imagery. The models were the gorgeous Arch Rival Roller Derby Girls and the rescued pups of Mutt’s N’ Stuff. The shoots themselves proved to be quite elaborate and lengthy, so the stamina and physicality of the girls was necessary….not to mention patience and sense of humor. Working as a model with little experience is a challenge in an of itself; but working on set with an animal that is recovering from abuse is a whole new ball game!

This shot is the perfect reminder that things can feel all wrong…hopeless and frustrating beyond anticipation, and yet that serendipitous moment can still find it’s way through the chaos to connect the camera and the subject. In the end, one good shot can betray all the doubt and worry and ironically, often turn out to be the image that people seem to love.

If you are in need of a 2011 Calendar, check the Mutts website for purchasing information. Or if you are interested in booking a personal Pin Up photoshoot with Lynn this year (A reward for sticking to your New Year’s resolution to lose the winter weight perhaps?), shoot us an email!

Looking back…

At this time of year it easy to get caught up in the forward-looking nature of New Year’s resolutions, as well as escaping into dreams of springtime weather and summer vacation plans. We just keep on trucking, often with the overwhelming notion that time, like water, is just rushing past us.

In an effort to thwart this tendency, we here at Lynn Terry Photography have taken the time to look back over the past year and attempt to soak in all that has occurred.

2010 has represented so many things for many of us…in many ways life is more stressful and challenging than what we were accustomed to pre-economic crisis. However, upon a brief pause to reflect upon the work we have done and the people we have met along the way (that have also been trudging through the tasks of just getting by and trying to make something out of nothing) we discovered that luckily, we are all creatives…which means if nothing else, we will find a way to get the job done and probably make room for ridiculousness and laughter while we’re at it…sillyness_01

(Warson Shoes & Converse Shoes Shoot with our friends/models, Rose and Mike….and yes, that bizarre white stick hanging from Lynn’s mouth was our lame effort at a cigarette!)

(On location, setting up the shot: Lynn playing the seriously-busy-person-that-is-in- charge-of-this-office…couldn’t quite pull it off.)

After sifting through tons of images and discussing memorable moments on location, we have assembled a series of blog entries that each cover a different genre of work, lessons learned, chapters closing and others opening, and finally, some of the people that we worked with along the way. Our goal is to keep each entry relatively short, sweet (a little sour) and heavily stocked with eye candy, of course!

Stayed Tuned & Happy New Year!

It’s that time of year again, and…
